Of all the adaptive equipment that we use for Chase, the one piece of equipment that we feel has impacted our lives the most, is hands down, the UpSee. This device does offer some therapeutic benefits – such as weight bearing, muscle movement, and blood circulation. But honestly, these are just added bonuses. The real benefit that the UpSee brings to a child with mobility challenges is the ability to participate in many of lives events that kids love to do. With the UpSee, Chase can play soccer, bowl, baseball, go for walks, or simply get out of his wheel chair and look eye to eye with his friends or kids of his own age. Although he can’t express how much he likes this, his demeanor when he is in it suggests he really enjoys it. One of the most memorable experiences we have had with Chase in the Upsee, other than the first time we saw him vertical in almost a year, was walking him across the stage to get his kindergarten diploma, instead of pushing his wheelchair!
